Frequently asked questions

What is the typical duration of the treatment?

Depending on age and severity of condition, treatment can be over 8 to 26 weeks

How long should my baby wear the helmet each day?

The helmet should be worn for 23 hours a day to achieve successful results.

How can I determine if the orthosis is fitting properly or needs adjustment?

Your clinician will make any adjustments at the regular reviews. If your baby develops bright red spots that don't settle within an hour, contact the office and we'll arrange an earlier appointment and advise.

How should I care for my baby's head skin?

Wash the hair daily and wipe the inside of the helmet twice a day, morning and evening with a regular baby wipe. Don't use oils or creams without speaking to your Orthotist.

What should I do if my child hasn't worn the orthosis for several days?

The helmet should be worn 23 hours a day, the only reasons for leaving it off are a temperature over 38C degrees or chicken pox before they scab over. We recommend that the helmet should not be off for more than 3 days at any one time. If the helmet has been off for a few days, start again in the morning, and check the skin at lunch time. If there are any red areas that don't settle within half an hour, contact the clinic.

How long until we can see improvement?

Some visible improvement is often noticeable after two weeks of wearing, with significant change occurring over the course of treatment.
